Most of those pics are of scarification, not tattoos. Similar, but scarification is waaaay more creepy. I've got tattoos, I don't think I could stomach that.

zhen said...

My dad has tattoos and they're pretty cool but those are just nasty... it might look cool not in the face of the camera but I would never do one of those...

Joe said...

Isn't this called "branding"? Like Jordan, I've got tattoos but don't think I could go for a brand, though I have thought about it, briefly.

tarun said...

I think it requires real guts to go for such unconventional tattoos and hats off to the guys who have really done it.

disqusting! you should to try medicate your heads!!!

Getting this stuff done is the ultimate in spectator sports. "Look at what I watched someone else do to me!" Sort of like claiming you are a musician because you play recordings.

Dinkyferret said...

Wow there are some really nice pieces, i think tattoes, scarification and branding, when done properly, can be beautiful. I think body art in general is really misunderstood as some of the previous posts have proved.

the one where the guy is holding a child, and the child has the same scars, is just sick. not only is it sick, in this country it's against the law. what a bunch o moronic freaks.

daniel said...

I think the little girl's forehead color is painted on, not scarred on. The color isn't right, and most artists will not do that to a child so young... The legal and ethical standards are too high... I hope.

Sabrina said...

This is not tattooing. These people just think it is 'cool' to show off a freaking scar with a shape.
A tattoo is art -most of the time-.
They can even be sexy. Scarring for-the-heck-of-it is "self-mutilation while being proud of it". Sickening.

Moth said...

holy freaking crap! I think it's amazing people can go through that much suffering to have an icon on their bods. Their life their body... mad buggers, but good on em

Randy Minnick said...

I think "weird" doesn't even begin to cover this phenomenon. This is "way out there". These poor folks are crying out for help.

buddakatt said...

wow, i've got a few peircings and 10 tattoos but i could never sit through one of these. although i must say it doesn't look so bad when it's healed.
don't agree with the kid though,i'm really thinking it's got to be fake.

Frida said...

I wouldn't be surprised if some of these people were just naturally impervious to pain. I have a brother who used to just laugh when he got spanked, and I've heard of more extreme cases than that. Some people just don't feel pain much.

And then I wouldn't be surprised if some of them are just nuts [or addicted to the endorphin rush that follows pain]. But I doubt all them are, or that they all do it for the same reason.

susanfromtally said...

Whatever people want to do to their OWN bodies is their own business. I personally would never do this, but if they want to, more power to them.

HOWEVER, I absolutely do not agree with tattooing, scarring, or branding small children, especially on the FACE!! As far as I'm concerned, that is child abuse. The marks don't look painted on to me, they look real, and that poor girl is stuck with her father's idea of beauty for the rest of her life.

How sad.

The purple design on the daughters forehead is NOT a tattoo and is NOT any form of scarification, branding or cutting. It is a stencil used in the body modification industry. I am a professional tattoo artist and we use this everyday. It is called Thermofax paper, very similar to the Mimeograph paper used to make copies in the 50's or carbon copy paper. I would dare say that they put the stencil on her when they put his on. When applied to the skin they leave a purple TEMPORARY ink behind which lasts a few hours to a few days, far less than the temporary tattoos that most people are used to.

Robby said...

most of these pics are scarifikation or brandings. And I would say this much more painfull as a tattoo.

Slaelia said...

Some are nice, some look painfull.

Well, as someone said, they do whatever they want with their bodies, let's just say... well they could do something else! :p

Imo if it was art only they could do the exact same thing with less pain and less permanent marks. It's more about: "look at me, I'm able to handle this, now I want friends"...

Skydive said...

I've done and will do some crazy stuff, I even have several tattoo's myself; one covers most of my back...but this is just plain ugly. Tat's are supposed to be art not bloated scars. Although I noticed a guy on there had light scarification that looked cool, hardly even noticeable until you look close up.

froglady said...

To each his or her own. This is not something I would even think of doing. Some of them were pretty deep.I could almost smell the future infection. Yuck!!! No thanks I will stick to my peircings and tattoos.

Aaron said...

The kid with the purple lines.....that is facepaint or something of that nature. If you cant see that, YOU are the fool. Either that, or you need to get your eyes checked.

sgb said...

My body is a temple that I would not desecrate in this manner. But it's entertaining to view what other people do to themselves.

Karmen said...

I had never seen scarification like these photo's before, just branding, so it was really interesting to see the outcome of such a commitment. I always envy people who know what they want and go get it, so all of the artwork is amazing to see simply because you know it makes the bearer happy or nostalgic over memories past/present.

nbclimber said...

I like the one of the guy with the 'watermark' style one. It's not gory or obvious.

I think the 'scaring' 'tatoos' are sick, though. When you are 70yrs old and in aquatic-arobics with the rest of the 'old folks', those scar-tattoos aren't going to be real cool.

Interesting to see what others are up to, though.

toovote! said...

Nice tattoos !!! Do you think they'd dare to post them on toovote.com ???

Scarification is an art as well as tattooing. Though it is a little deeper into bodymods then some are willing to go. It's not self mutilation, it's fired with the same artistic intentions.

absolutly fantastic designs, i myself am not into scarification, yet i am covered haed to toe in ink. each to their own as the saying goes, fair play to all who go through the pain thresh hold to achieve their desires. dave t

Anonymous said...

i wld so get one of these..they are so cool..they pain goes away after awhile..just like a tattoo

Anonymous said...

dude i think some of these are nice and really a piece of art... some are retarded though. I really feel some of these burnings and scarification are really cool. It is art and when done right has amazing results. Some of the posts here are complete bullshit from very ignorant people

nealtheartist said...

ALL OF THESE ARE NOT BRANDING. MANY ARE SCARIFICATION... THEY ARE CUT INTO YOUR SKIN. THERE IS A COOL DOCUMENTARY ON YOUTUBE FROM THE PHOTO OF THE ASIAN GUY WITH HIS ENTIRE CHEST AND STOMACH... IT WAS A HERITAGE THING. SCARIFICATION TURNS OUT BETTER THAN BRANDING FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN...

theyaredumb said...

well i wouldn't never do that they use a small plyer and a litle knife and with the plyer hold ur skin and slice it with the knife.i consider this as mutilation XD i got shocked when i saw it

Anonymous said...

Guys guys guys....all these bollocks about the little girl, makes me laugh.....obviously it's paint....it's so damn obvious that even a blind would laugh about it....feckin' comments about not'n....plonkers.

I think this is an interesting form of new art.. AND yes I said ART!
You can't dislike something just because you wouldn't do it yourself! That is so Judgemental..
Body art has been practiced for a very long time, once people started walking around with piercings and tattoo's that was frowned upon because it wasn't that common. But, nowadays you see every second person with a piercing or tattoo. Isn't that self mutilation?!?! I'm not against self expression, if someone wants to hang themselves from hooks or transplant horns into their head then fine!! People have been finding new ways since the beginning of time to shock others.
What is the difference between breast implants/nose jobs/ piercings/ tattoos? Aren't they all self mutilation?
I find the judgement harsh and narrow-minded.

Anonymous said...

Those cats are gnarly, If they upset you with their body art they probably achieved a part of what they were trying to accomplish. If you think that little girl actually had those scars you are a dumb f*ck and would be better off getting help than the people with scarification who you say need it, kooks. To all you guys with scars, that shit is crazy! Keep thinking outside the box and making the squares of the world do their job in life of being concerned with people who aren't like them. You win.

Hmm ive kindof done one of those.. was bored one day a year ago.. a tad drunk.. got a protractor and etched a celtic cross into my leg. didnt go deep enough for a serious scar, but you could see it for a few months. cant even see it these days. my mate did one aswell.. she went deeper so still very visible. Im thinking of getting one properly done.. i dont reckon its that bad, though wouldnt get a big one.

Anonymous said...

Thats really disgusting..when u get old those will prolly look like shit..i dont no y anybody would want to peel there skin off there body just to look like an idiot.

impshum said...

Some of these are absolutely amazing, some of them not. The one with the swirl in the back of the neck is savage to say the least, I wish there was a picture of it after healing.

Updated April 18 2008l2behuman and wake up. this is just very retarded to do IMO and personally wouldn't have it done myself. if ne1 asked me "should i get that done?" i would replie "r u f'ing stupid?"...but yea, like what susanfromtally said "Whatever people want to do to their OWN bodies is their own business." and i agree with that but all i'm saying is that this is not normal behavior.

Anonymous said...

i got two words branded *burnt* on both arms (one on each) and to tell you the truth it didnt and/or doesnt hurt it only felt like an elastic snapping for half a second then no more pain it coterizes the nerves so no more pain haha and i also have a tattoo that is on the inside of my lip ;p

JJ said...

i think that everyone has there own way of showing who they are and screw all the ppl to past judgment bc u never know what judgment is being past on u! i think that they have guts to do what they have done and has opened my eyes to new art and another way of showing my personality

These aren't tattoos, this is branding/scarification. Some of it is done with hot metal, some by cutting. And it's SICK. I love tattoos. I HAVE tattoos. But these are ugly and disgusting. There's something seriously wrong with these people's heads. No sane human being does something like that to themselves.

Rh' Bekah said...

DAMN...sum of this shit iz like wat the fuck...cuz ppl r cuttin off there skin...eww... but than its tight cuz ppl wuld actually do it...imma juss remain wit my tatz

Anonymous said...

the one guy said most body art is misunderstood...
most people have the same opinion as me..
they appreciate the look and the artistic pionts but couldnt take that pain

this has a very cool result
but it takes a sick person to put themselves through that
....i mean they're basically skinning themselves for the sake of art
but i love the look of the scars

(and the child doesnt have scars in the one pic....
they're purple...
i think it's marker cause his cuts were pretty fresh...
if hers was a tattoo or cut he probably got hers done at the same time or after his and it wouldn't have healed that much faster than his....)

The guy with the flowers on his chest, haha! So NOT manly. And he'll be stuck with that for a looong time.

Anonymous said...

Oh my gosh! Are you people kidding me?? That little girl DOES NOT have anything more than purple MARKER on her forehead. You can clearly see the smudge marks at the top. Gotta love those drama queens!!!

Ira said...

I was just thinking the same thing. That guy with the flowers on his chest, is sooo... confused. Or, maybe, he reeeally likes flowers. LOL.

I only have one thing to say about all the comments. You all are right, one way or another, right? Right.

I think some of the branding was a little too deep. The girl with the swirl on her neck and the guy with the toxic symbol. Too much for me.

Apparently, the individuals who made the decision to do this thought about the reactions of others. They simply don't care. Most of the pieces are abstract to the public eye, meaning they have deep meaning to the person than just a design, ergo the scarring instead of ink. Permanence.

It makes you realize how passionate and sensitive (maybe even vulnerable in some cases) this group of people really are.

I'm amazed at how much thought it has provoked in all the commentators.

I think the scary part of this is the fact of our knowing how painful that is. This does not make them sub-human. But, maybe a form of incomprehensible transcendence. Although I'm sure there is a diagnosis out there for this type of behavior. LOL. :) The world is simply not ready, evidently...

I personally would not brand myself. I'll stick to ink, thank you. ;)

Anonymous said...

i'm all for tattoos, i mean i want to be a tattoo artist when i get older. but this is just a different type of art, not tattoos but "branding" as some would call it. i myself don't think i could put myself through that bcuz i'm a burn victim.however if mature and fully fledged adults decide to permantly mark themselves who are we to say no? it's their body not yours.

Morticia Addams said...

This is, indeed SCARification, the practice of scarring the derma permanently, like a 3rd degree burn. Some are cool to see, some are just too raw, too new to be "cool looking". I will stick to ink, sterile, minimum infection to no infection if done right and taken care of properly. However, tattoos are also WOUNDS purposefully inflicted on the body.

Not for me, thanks!! I am enjoying the site though~

Anonymous said...

OMG these are soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful!!! I've had my newest done 1 1/2 years now, am not regretting it at all! My scars are all significant, but my latest is my favourite, here with me for life to remind me of all the amazing people I met
