according to the documentary on TLC last night he lost the weight on the Zone diet, not surgery.
I watched TLC last night as well - The Zone Diet people were shown visiting him throughout the weight loss process. I think the surgery was for the big lymph growths.
I hope that guy can lose a few more pounds!
Kitty is correct... Manuel did not loose weight by surgery. He lost weight on the Zone diet and on high doses of EicoPro Fish Oil from Dr. Sears' ZoneLabs...

He did not have gastric bypass surgery, he went on the Zone diet and lost that weight just as kitte said. He elected not to have the surgery. Yes, the surgery he had was to remove the growths he had on both legs. Obesity is one of the worst prejudice we have in the world. If you've never had a weight problem or any kind of addiction, you really can't understand what this guy or any other person like him is going through. Education on obesity is what the US needs. We can get medical coverage for drug rehab or medical coverage if you need Psychiatric help but if you need assistance to help you with a weight problem, you will not get help until you are so large you will need the bypass surgery. That is sad. And just in case you want to know, I am not obese myself but my Grandmother was.
OH MY GOSH....this is beyond addiction...come on when you get to a point to where you can't walk because of your weight...I think a light bulb would go off somewhere..1200lbs!!!! I'm surprised the guy was not already dead from heart failure & how GROSS someone has to come & wipe his butt & clean his body & bring him food because he was that out of control & at the beginning he blamed fast food, sitting @ a desk & American for his weight gain....Where does he think his responsibility is for himself?? ok, so this guy is extremely fat. that doesn't mean he has to take shit from people. Also, some people cant control thier urges to eat excessively.

okay im actually getting tired of all the people who say the US needs to be nice to the fat. People are not nice to other people that hurt themselves we throw drug addicts out after awhile. Yet when it comes to being over-weight many choose to turn a blind eye w/ big is beautiful. No healthy is beautiful and he certainly is not. If we actually did what we did to smokers and educate people about healthy eating and physical activity we will be ok. I do feel bad for this man and i do wish him luck on his road to becoming healthy.

The people who brought him food are ultimately responsible for this monstrosity. This should be an easy fix. Give him 3 healthy meals per day and ignore the screaming for more. Afterall, what's he gonna do? Get up and walk? I don't think so.
Don't blame it on the tacos and pizza...have a little self control. And how could you afford to eat that all the time?
i feel that its no one fault but his own if he saw himself getting fat he shuld of got help in the beginning or just stop eating all those nasty fatty foods and yes everyone has a choice in the way they gain weight and look on the outside appearence.

if he cryed out for help in losing weight why didnt he cry out when he was gaining the weight, and once he has lost all the weight he wants and needs to then he needs to get more help in getting all that skin that is stretched cut off people need to spend there time helping the poor and the homeless not to be mean or anything but this man is not a great deal to be put on television and given all this help from all these dr's and people who are giving him the help that they think he needs he didnt need help when he was gaining the weight.

I'm sorry, I may sound heartless, but no one tells these people to put food in their mouths! I have had a weight problem too and I'm always hungry as they say too. I have an allotted amount of calories per meal and that's it! I don't eat until the next meal. It's called willpower! Even though I'm always hungry, I am at a normal BMI now.

I think this is a very sad situation where was the family didint they tell him how bad he was getting or looking. And yes know one has the right to judge others but this is rediculis. Hope that he keeps fighting to keep the weight off.

Did everyone miss the part about his hormonal imbalance which caused the growths on his legs that make it impossible for him to walk? They were cut off once but grew back. I agree the mother should have used tough love on her son and refused to feed him enormous amounts when he was depressed and only had food to satify him. But we all have our moments. His was more distructive than other methods. His weight lose is great advertising for the zone diet and doctors. By pass surgery will further the cause but he will still need to have surgery on his legs again and that isn't cheap.

I am shocked. These people are sick and require those caring for them to STOP feeding them CRAP.
Fresh fruit, fresh veggies, lean meat. No processed foods, no bread, no crap.

The girlfriend lost her husband because of his weight killing him. She is emotionally attracted to Manuel in order to compensate for her loss.
I'm sure Manuel is a wonderful man. But when he can walk, will it be to get food he craves or for his health?

What you people don't seem to understand is that he has a disease that caused the 220 pound tumors in his legs. So 440 pounds of his weight comes from that alone. If they can get rid of those successfully, he'll be half his current weight. Sure, he was fed a lot when he was depressed, but a lot of people do that. His leg tumors caused his immobility, and that certainly didn't help, but it's not entirely his fault. If he didn't have this disease, he wouldn't have 440 pounds of his weight, and he probably wouldn't have been so depressed, causing him to eat as much as he did.
