Oh come on!! Some of them are pretty awsome! Gordon Freeman, Cloud Strife, the Halo guy, Hellgirl, the cookie monster-head girl and Cuthulu! Those last two were pretty creative. I really don't understand why they are posted as fails.
Some were awesome! like MasterChief, the Hindu God or whatever and the female-version-of-Hellboy

Some of those costumes are just plain awesome.
Granted a bit strange and retarded... but I would think that is what just a few of them were going for.
To be sure, there are a few embarrassing ones, but most of these costumes are top notch. You should rethink about your classification.
The man in the weird Robocop suit is Jack Black from the movie "Be Kind Rewind"
